Round Table on the status of language professions in Europe

Round Table on the status of language professions in EuropeGhent (Belgium), Giorgio Vassallo - If you want to make a career with languages,  there are plenty of opportunities in The Language Sector waiting to be exploited and the entry barriers are low.

Having low entry barriers, however, means that almost anyone can sell anything, even bad quality language products/services. Thus, many customers have bad experiences with low-quality language work, and as a result, the image of The Language Sector suffers. What can be done to improve the image of the industry and the status of the language professions?

The Language Sector will hold a Round Table discussion on the current status of language professions in Europe on 17 March, 2016 in Brussels, Belgium. The issues that will be discussed will include, but not be limited to:

  • Why is the status of language professions in Europe not optimal?
  • Why is the image of The Language Sector in Europe rather confusing?
  • What actions can be taken to enhance the status of language professions in Europe?
  • What is the next step: who should do what?

The Round Table meeting will be moderated by Dries Debackere, an international business consultant with over 20 years of experience. The Round Table will be open to anyone who is interested in the status of language professions in Europe and is willing to contribute positive ideas on how to help improve the current situation.

Registration is free for members of The Language Sector. The price for non-members will be €150 (excl. VAT) before 31 December 2015 or €250 before 28 February 2016. To register please send an email to roundtable@thelanguagesector.eu
