Dyslexia and other specific learning disorders: the help of technology in schools
- Details
- 08 November 2019
Dyslexia is, along with dysgraphia, dysorthography and dyscalculia, a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) that affects in Italy about 3-5% of students and in Europe between 9-12%. In Italy at least 1,500,000 people are suffering from dyslexia and, according to the latest research published by the Italian Dyslexia Association, in each class there is at least one student with a specific learning disorder, although very often without a diagnosis.
It is important to understand that dyslexia is not a disease: it is a specific reading disorder that causes difficulties in decoding the text and that manifests itself all over the world regardless of the culture or the language spoken.
In addition, there is no connection between a person's intelligence level, individual effort, socioeconomic position and the presence of dyslexia or other specific learning disorders. These learning disorders can occur during the developmental age but can improve, for example thanks to the support of compensatory and technological tools.
