Multilingual Europe: translation and/or English as lingua francaThe vertaalpraktijk is much more than a technical skill. The practice of translation, certainly in the multilingual Europe, has all kinds of implications: economic, cultural, legal and political. The directorate-general for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission has launched a new and ambitious program to further the understanding in the practice of translation, in the political choices of language and vertaalvlak can be made and the implications of policy choices can have. In the framework of this program - Studies on translation and multilingualism - DGT two reports: a report on the contribution of the translation of the multilingual Europe and a report on the lingua franca in the history of Europe and the English as lingua franca in the multilingual Europe of today.
